First Annual Village St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The Village of Montgomery will be hosting its First Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 23, 2013.

The parade will commence at 2:00 p.m. (1 pm lineup) in the Rolling Meadows Development.   The Parade Route is as follows:  Sycamore Drive to Senior Street to Union Street to Clinton Street to Bridge Street to Veterans’ Memorial Park.

There will be other events scheduled prior to the parade, such as:

  • 5K Race 8:00 a.m. (registration 7:00 a.m.)
  • Mass at St. Mary’s Church
  • Easter Egg Hunt,
  • Grand Marshal Patrick Kelleher luncheon  at noon at St. Mary’s Hall
  • Children’s fun race.

Most village restaurants will be offering dinner and entertainment specials that evening, and other businesses will have special sales.   The Grand Marshal Kickoff Party is Friday March 15th 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Village Senior Center.

The Parade Committee has had four meetings already and is going full force to make the first event quite successful.  Thanks to Paul Satkowski, Trevor Owens, Marc Devitt, and other volunteers who were able to raise $2,300 from the golf outing.  That money will pay for additional police coverage the day of the parade.  Other fundraising events are being planned to fully subsidize the parade.

The parade will be sized based upon the funds raised. For Information regarding the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festivities, call the Village Office at 457-9661 (Ronnie at ext. 203 or Tina at ext. 201)

Congratulations to the 2016 D.A.R.E. Graduates!

The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E)  Graduation was held at the Montgomery Elementary School, for the 5th grade class, on Thursday, March 31st.

It is a program taught in schools by specially trained law enforcement officers. It was created by a combined effort of educators and law enforcement personnel in Los Angeles in 1983, and rapidly expanded nationwide.

Officers are carefully chosen and must undergo stringent training to receive their certification as D.A.R.E. instructors. A common thread shared by these D.A.R.E. instructors is their dedication to the task and their commitment to provide children with the knowledge and strength to make choices they can call their very own.".

D.A.R.E. is not focused on "scare tactics," but on helping children develop important life skills in order to make good choices; skills needed to deal with the dangers of illicit and illegal drugs, including alcohol and tobacco. D.A.R.E. provides the guidance children need to make the right decisions for their health and their future.

The 10-week elementary curriculum, taught to our fifth graders, covers many topics that help students understand and deal with social pressures while strengthening their own self-image. Lessons actively involve student participation through workbook exercises, questions and answers, role playing, and group discussion. These lessons include:

  • Personal safety
  • Assertiveness
  • Use and misuse of drugs
  • Managing stress
  • Consequences of behavior
  • Media influences
  • Building self-esteem
  • Role models
  • Resisting peer pressure
  • Support systems
  • Alternatives
  • Decision-making and risk-taking

The Village of Montgomery supports the youth of our village. Congratulations to all of the 5th graders for participating and graduating from the D.A.R.E. Program!

A very special "Thank You" to Village of Montgomery Police Officer Jack Smith, who coordinates the D.A.R.E Program, and for a job well done!
